One of my favourite sessions to date would have to be Juliette and Jeans’s Calgary engagement session. Super stripped down, super simple I could do sessions like this Every. Dam. Day.
So if I’m being honest I have a confession, Juliette and Jean didn’t inquire for an engagement session, I totally stalked them on Instagram and we met while I was in Victoria, BC for a photography conference. I promise I’m not a full time stalker but any time I’m in a new city I’ll always have a quick check on insta to see if there are any couples that may want some pretty photos. Fortunately for me, Juliette and Jean were keen. We met in my hotel room, I really wanted to experiment with a more intimate style of couple photography before hitting the beach. It’s been too long since I had photographed people on a beach.
Jean and Juliette were so keen for anything that I suggested. It’s always amazing when a couple has total trust in what you do, in my opinion this is when magic happens.
I’m always telling my couples that a great idea for your engagement session is to completely mix it up from what your wedding pictures will look like. Variety is great. For example, if you are getting married in the mountains then a more urban setting could be great for your engagement session. If you’re getting married in the winter then a summer session could be fun. Something I’ve yet to get fully into is in-home sessions. I think it’s because I’m such an outdoor person, and also because the mountains are so close. Seriously, mountains … I get it, I always want to in them, on them, doing stuff with them, its weird how much I love them but there is just something so lovely about two people, in a home, feeling comfortable feeling like its their happy place with the one that makes them happy.
Our renos are almost done, well enough to be photographable and as soon as they are then I’ll be offering home session at our place. Our whole house will become a home studio so if you’re thinking your place won’t be great .. I got you boo!
