When it comes to weather Chelsey + Chris’s intimate Kananaskis elopement was the craziest wedding we’ve ever photographed! When we moved to Calgary one of the things that we were told over and over was “when it comes to weather .. expect anything, anytime” I didn’t really believe them, I grew up where it was sunny and hot for 9 months of the year so the idea of snow in summer was completely unbelievable. All of that changed for me the day of Chris + Chelsey’s Kananaskis elopement when it was a white out blizzard in June. Yep, that’s right … June 10th and a white out – snow flakes the size of cotton balls – blizzard.
I met Chris and Chelsey the week before their Kananaskis elopement so we could go over the schedule of the day and find some locations together for their portraits. At that stage it was scheduled to be a little chilly and raining. We had our fingers crossed hoping the forecasted rain would change. Unfortunately this Kananaskis elopement gave us snow instead of mountain views.
It wasn’t the original plan for their elopement in Kananaskis but Chelsey and Chris ended up getting one of my favourite set of images. Their ceremony was a magical winter wonderland but we were also able to capture the originally planned pictures at our day after shoot. These two adventurous souls and their cute pooch Milly were amazing to hang out with, we were lucky enough to tramp around the mountains twice with these guys and we wouldn’t change the weather for anything!
Chelsey + Chris picked an unmarked location in Kananaskis elopement ceremony. They and their wedding party stayed at Mount Engadine Lodge. It is such a fantastic place to stay or for a Sunday drive and afternoon tea on the weekends. You can check it out here!
